KÜS – This modest acronym stands for Kraftfahrzeug-Überwachungsorganisation freiberuflicher Kfz-Sachverständiger e.V. or Motor Vehicle Monitoring Association of Independent Automotive Consulting Engineers. Originally founded and incorporated in 1981, KÜS was to commence active operations in 1991. It has been officially accredited and active throughout Germany since 1993. Over 1,000 specialist engineers work at over 10,000 inspection facilities located in car dealerships and garages as well as at KÜS test centres. As an association, KÜS represents the economic, technical and political interests of its members in the field of motor vehicle monitoring, and in their activities as consulting engineers.
KÜS’s mission is to promote the continued liberalisation and deregulation of motor vehicle monitoring as currently determined by the law. Between 1998 and 2006, KÜS’s quality management arm was certified on an ongoing basis by the KBA, the German Federal Motor Transport Authority. In 2006, the KBA ceased to be tasked with this function and KÜS’s competence is now certified to DIN EN ISO 17020 by the DAP, the German accreditation system testing agency.
